Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas, USA – 2012
Road trippin’ to Palo Duro Canyon State Park!! Shawna, Andrew and I needed a little warm-up trip before our big Southeast Asia adventure. If you have an attention span, here’s the rest of the story! If not, just look at the pictures and let your frontal lobe atrophy.
- Andrew in the car on the way back posing for a Calvin Klein perfume ad.
- Result of the first mishap on our trip back from Palo Duro.
- Uh oh…
- Yours truly…looking like a bug or something.
- Taking a break from being awesome at life.
- Some stars as viewed through our tent. We were at least 15 miles away from any significant source of manmade light.
- Sometimes I imagine exploring America (really exploring anywhere though) before anyone else had ever seen it. Feels like it would be something like this.
- Keeping a lookout for the Native Americans that were trying to scalp us.
- Shawna practicing her epic poses.
- It’s hard to see him or her, but there is a deer where the clearing leads. A few of them were hanging out in a nearby parking lot smoking pot. We asked them to stop but they just galloped away.
- Someone trying to break into the tent. Turns out it was her tent anyway and I was just sitting in it!! Life’s funny sometimes.
- Diligent soldier building a home so I would have somewhere to sleep.
- Baby cacti in the shade just trying to grow up and be big.
- I sat down in the sand by the creek and rested; one of the most calm, solitary moments of the trip for me.
- We had to cross this creek to get to our campsite. This was the simplest place so I threw my sleeping bag over the creek to force us to cross there. After landing, my sleeping bag proceeded to roll backward and fall in the creek.
- Not quite treacherous but it still felt adventurous.
- A lil hiker making her way to a yet to be chosen hike-in campsite.
- Seeing all the colors of the new world…
- This place felt like we were on The Land Before Time movie set.
- Years and years of nature doing its magical thing.
- I climbed up a rock and turned my friends into ants.
- My two exploring buddies making their way to find a good spot to set some tents!!
- Welcome to Palo Duro State Park!!
- Andrew fell asleep promptly after we hit the road.
