Berlin Streets
Berlin, Germany – 2013
After fleeing Rotterdam I wound up in Berlin, staying with a friend of a friend, who quickly became my own friend.
Berlin was a great place to keep my mind busy while recovering from the self-inflicted heartache and chemical melancholia milkshake I’d been drinking for a while…plenty of amazing public transportation and a plethora of interesting coffee shops and restaurants all over the city gave me lots to do.
I spent most of my days in Berlin wandering around on the subway, usually buying a day pass and getting off at random stops or following around people I was intrigued by.

A modern structure next to one of its grandparents.
-
-
Massive street energy in Berlin. I stood on this corner for a while just watching people pass and wondering if everyone else really had somewhere to be and I was the only one wandering aimlessly…

The watch from Wendy sits on the sill, a constant reminder to stay positive even on the most dismal of days.
-
-
Cold, sterile, disconnected feeling.
-
-
“Just got my fill of Balzacs…” That’s what this guy told me as he passed.
-
-
Yeah right…I have never met a bear that can speak 13 languages, and even if he could and he was my tour guide, why would he be carrying a camera like a tourist?? Oh yeah…have some self-respect and clip your fucking toenails.

Defacement of public property by way of yarn is not a crime in Berlin. Here someone yarn-bombed a street pole and left a mysterious note that leaves us with no idea of what they wanted to accomplish: “Make people smile!”

Berlin thinks Seattle, USA is a sewer and that’s why the Space Needle is on the sewer grate in Berlin.
-
-
This is the “anti-world world” globe.
-
-
I can’t wait to leave the American sector.
-
-
Classic look of the U-Bahn stations. Gritty, weathered, used.
-
-
Now I’m underground, transporting myself thru pipes like Mario. Observing others get from place to place was often the highlight of me myself getting out. It is its own activity.
-
-
A shelf in Mark’s kitchen. The style and simplicity made me feel at ease. Except for the lobster…
-
-
The warm feeling this light gives off did not translate once I walked out the doors below the stairs.
-
-
Tante Lisbeth closed whenever I wanted to go there. JK. No idea wtf that place was but I liked the colors.
-
-
The nearest metro stop to Mark’s place. Those are my close friends I’ve known my whole life walking up to greet me warmly. Just kidding–they are just random strangers. I’m here alone.

Yes, I am still in Germany in this picture…there are black people in Germany!!

I followed this girl around until she stopped at a coffee shop where I go everyday. She ordered a drink that I love and then I hastily left because I couldn’t think of anything to talk about or any possible way to relate to her.

-
I’m surprised more trash cans weren’t stuffed full of coats–it is so hot in Berlin during winter.
