Goodbye Thailand, Hello Malaysia
Goodbye Thailand, Hello Malaysia – 2012
We took an overnight train from Surat Thani to Sungai Kolok then walked across the Thai/Malaysian border and headed to Kota Bharu, en route to Perhentian Kecil, a small island off the east coast of Malaysia.

Nothing disturbing about this pic until you zoom in and see the assault rifle next to this sleeping guy’s leg.
-
-
See you later Thailand…it was fun constantly trying to avoid getting fucked over by your merchants and government! I can’t wait to come back with an apprehensive and untrusting attitude toward everyone, excluding people in remote villages untouched by tourism!!
-
-
I don’t know how she’s so good at smiling. There are times when I recall being such a bad travel partner I just wanted to shoot myself and put us all out of our misery. You’re awesome, Shawna!
-
-
The seats fold down into extremely comfortable beds. All five-star hotels could learn a thing or two from the older Thai sleeper trains.
-
-
These young girls ran at the train begging for my autograph. I tried to explain I’m just some guy who’s depressed and unsatisfied with his life, desperately searching for what to do for a living. Actually the first part of this story isn’t true.
-
-
Mangoes or some other fruit spread out on blankets, drying in the sun. This scene occured numerous times on the train ride through Southern Thailand.
-
-
A group of boys bathing or playing in a little stream.
-
-
Probable drug addict pissing in an otherwise scenic public park right on the Thai/Malaysian bordertown of Sungai Kolok. There were also multiple soldiers with automatic weapons sitting in the park, playing on their phones. I asked to take a photo with them but they declined in a friendly manner.

-
Selamat datang, baby! New journey begins, this time in Malaysia! I was so happy to be somewhere new I almost broke down.
-
-
Cut off the last two words and I might agree but I still wouldn’t plaster it on a building. Why would you have to write it if you truly knew it? Keep trying to militantly knock out the insecurities in your beliefs…

-
An irresponsible mother in Kota Bharu dressed her twin boys in the same outfits.
-
-
Cool staircases reminded me of some sort of dreamworld. Though we didn’t see much of these, the architecture in Malaysia was much different than what we saw in Thailand.
-
-
A rat chilling in the open sewage system in Kota Bharu. He thought it would be cool to starve to death near littered cigarette butts.
-
-
A fierce street cat. Most of the cats here had bent or otherwise deformed tails. The first time I saw it I thought the cat had just gotten its tail run over. There were too many deformed tails for this to be the a reasonable explanation. Some friends we met hypothesized the gene pool might be a bit to small.

An assortment of stylish curtains.

-
Maybe it means “circular sign”…no one was around for me to ask.
-
-
The whole reason I wanted to go to Kota Bharu was to visit this sewage treatment plant compound…get there and I find out I can’t even enter. Bummmmmer.

Welcome to Cool Blog. We sell milk tea. We know neither the meaning of the word “cool” nor “blog”. Thanks for stopping by!

More high-quality, useful goods strewn about a night market in Kota Bharu.

-
A night market shortly before it stormed. The high winds had vendors scrambling to take down their tents before they blew away.
